Have you ever noticed how much of our day is spent "hunched"? Whether it’s over a steering wheel, a keyboard, or a phone, our bodies naturally collapse forward.

This week’s Wellness Wednesday features The Vitruvian Man, a powerful "life extension" exercise. It is designed to immediately improve your posture, activate the muscles of your upper back, and engage your core to support your spine.

How To Perform The Vitruvian Man

  1. The Setup: Stand tall. Engage your upper back by pulling your shoulder blades slightly together, relax your shoulders down, and tighten your core.

  2. The Clock: Imagine you are standing in the center of a clock face.

  3. 12 O'Clock: Raise your arms straight up to 12 o'clock. Hold for 5–20 seconds while breathing deeply.

  4. Move Through the Hours: Slowly move your arms to 1 o'clock, 2 o'clock, and so on, holding each position.

  5. The 6 O'Clock Finish: Bring your arms slightly behind your body. Turn your hands outward so your thumbs point backward. Gently squeeze your traps and rhomboids (mid-back).

Why it works: This isn't about speed; it's about positioning and awareness. It "wakes up" the postural muscles that keep your spine in alignment.
